lilah, i read a few pages of your blog today, first time i’ve looked at it in a while. blown away again at how well chosen your words are and how on point your social commentary is. i think if i ever met you in real life i would be intimidated by how smart i think you are and would be unable to speak.

i have been thinking about art/intelligence/creativity A lot, genius, the kinds of intelligence that just blow my mind and everyone else’s because it says something all on its own. and i have come to think it’s not criticism, of course, and it’s not political work, of course, but that it is not specifically not those things. the problem with politics and criticism is that it allows the intellectual left to define what we think of as genius and perpetuates the knowing of art within their sphere of satisfaction. and what satisfies this group? it’s stuff they know and therefore can be triggered by, in the many pastiche appearances things make. life is hopeless, but at least there are sparks of genius lighting up the world.
